Nintendo Fusion Tour Presents: Story Of The Year, LostProphets, My Chemical Romance and Anberlin

Roseland Ballroom
New York City, New York
October 26, 2004

Nintendo Fusion Tour in NYC was awesome. First Anberlin came on, then My Chemical Romance, Lost Prophets and of course, Story Of The Year. Anberlin, My Chemical Romance and Lost Prophets each played for about a half hour, while Story Of The Year played for about an hour. By the time Story Of The Year came on, fans were already crowd surfing like hell, and had crazy mosh pits going. These bands were made to tour together.
First, Anberlin came on. Not many people heard of Anberlin, or bothered to listen to them before this concert. Let me tell you, if you like any of these bands on Nintendo Fusion tour, you’d love Anberlin. These guys really get the crowd hyped for a band they'd never heard before. Although the boys in Anberlin don’t jump and do flips, they still rock. Between running around the stage, jumping and still playing their instruments right, you have to admit they’re doing a great job. Anberlin put forth such energy and excitement for the crowd. The crowd was loving Anberlin, and Anberlin was loving the crowd.
Next up: My Chemical Romance. So, in lots of reviews, I read that My Chemica
l Romance was terrible in concert. After what I saw, I couldn’t agree or disagree. The crowd got rough during My Chemical Romance. The lead singer was running around the stage, getting the fans hyped. The guitarists [including the bassist], were boring me. These guys walked around stage a little but nothing special. Out of nowhere, the lead singer decides he’s going to make out with the bassist. Shocked, the crowd screams so loud, pretty much cheering them on. Well, if they want to make out, that’s cool. Besides that, I think the crowd was more hyped then the band.
After that little warm up, Lostprophets came & kicked major ass on stage. The crowd was the roughest for Lost Prophets, out of ALL the bands. The guys ran around stage like their pants were lit on fire. You’d think that from the singing of the lead singer, and screams from the keyboardist, loud guitar riffs, and pounding drums through a million huge speakers that they would be louder then the crowd, but that wasn’t the case. The crowd kept getting louder then the band every so often. I personally know how rough the crowd was because I have bruises EVERYWHERE (since I was in the front dying against the barricade). You could hardly move, or breathe, but it was amazing. Lostprophets was telling the crowd things to get us to mosh more, to crowd surf more, and to pretty much let loose and go nuts. They were an “opening act” on the tour, but to the crowd, these guys were one of our main acts (or so the crowd considered them to be).
Finally, Story Of The Year came on. Story Of The Year opened with “And The Hero Will Drown.” Of course, this song got fans jumping, pushing, screaming, singing, moshing, and crowd surfing. The crowd wasn’t as rough as they were during Lostprophets, but they weren’t calming down either. About halfway through the set, the boys in Story Of The Year took a risk and decided to do some wacky, funny songs put together.
The boys performed Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama," Michael Jackson's "Beat It," and Kansas' "Carry On Wayward Son,” flowing from one crazy song into the next. Too add more to it, Phil (guitarist) sure knows how to moon walk. Continuing with their set, the boys in Story Of The Year decided they needed a little rest from rocking out so hard. The boys sat down on the amps and/or on the edge of the stage, playing their new hit “Sidewalks.” Overall, they put on the best performance of the night. And of course, Lostprophets AND Story Of The Year said that we (the NYC crowd) were the best crowd they’ve had all tour. Go check these boys out when they come by your area. You don’t know what you’d be missing out on.
