The Promise Ring

The Promise Ring played to a packed house for their Milwaukee CD release show. The only way to get in was to purchase a copy of their new album Wood/Water, either on vinyl or CD. My best estimation would be that there were 350-400 people at the show, held at an old theater-in-the-round.

The band simply played their album live. They went straight through from track one to track 12. They finished with an encore of three songs that date back quite aways.

The band was very personable with the crowd, especially lead singer Davey vonBohlen. One member of the band wasn't just celebrating the release of their new album. Drummer Dan Didier was celebrating his birthday, which vonBohlen alluded to during the set.

While the set list was unimaginative, the concert was good. The interaction was more than you'll see at most concerts and the setting of being in a theater-in-the-round was unique. If you get a chance, catch The Promise Ring on their Wood/Water tour, which seems to run forever!
