Story of the Year w/ Letter Kills
Rave Eagle's Club - Milwaukee, WI

What better thing is there to do than to go to a quality show on a very cold January evening that doubles as a school night?? Um, probably nuthin'. After freezing my ass off on the way to the show and attending the Story of the Year concert, I'd have to say that this is by far one of the best concerts I’ve seen in quite some time. If you’ve never heard Story of the Year, then you have no idea what you’re
missing. If you have heard them, then you know that ya gotta see them live.
Unfortunately, Letter Kills was the opening act for this one. I had never heard them before tonight and I didn’t exactly enjoy their set or their sound for that matter. Their performance offered too many unnecessary guitar solos. Not to mention, their show off vocalist wasn’t my cup of tea. I drink tea? Boy, am I emo or what? Anyway... Letter Kills? More like overkills. I would bet my bottom dollar that their lead singer was a male cheerleader back in the day. He probably still is deep down inside except now he makes his living as a Geoff Rickly impersonator.
Now on to the good stuff.
Story of the Year took the stage and opened their set with “And the Hero Will Drown” and I must tell you that their energy level was absolutely through the roof. Everybody in the whole place was running, jumping, and crowd surfing and it was only their first song! It’s an energy you won’t see anywhere else. Although, I’m pretty sure the cramped basement of a venue more commonly known as the Eagle's Club had something to do with it. The youthful crowd had also welcomed them quite nicely, which was sweet - awwww.
I was a bit concerned when their radio single, “Until the Day I Die,” was the third song they played. Another concern was that their set as a whole was insanely short. This show let out at 9:30 PM for crying out loud! But I must say, these guys went out in style by ending the show with a bang. They were calling it a night after an earth shaking rendition of “In the Shadows.” It left everyone begging for more. So, they came back out, but, to my recollection, they had already played everything off of Page Avenue. My jaw dropped as they finished with a cover of Metallica’s “Enter Sandman.” It was definitely a show to remember.
