Lucky Boys Confusion w/ Swizzle Tree, Number One Fan & Split Habit
The Rave II - Milwaukee, WI
February 7th, 2004
Lucky Boys Confusion. Not once have I seen LBC and been dissapointed. This show was no exception! I'll start out with the opening bands first.
Split Habit kicked things off. However, I think they started earlier than 8PM, the advertised showtime, unless it just took me a really long time to walk to The Rave. So, I missed all but about 20 seconds of their last song which was disapointing because I've never heard them before and it's always great to hear a new band. So, to be fair to everyone, I'm not going to rate them at all. The 20 seconds that I did see them rocking out was pretty cool, though. I hope they roll through Milwaukee again so I can check them out.
Number One Fan was up next. They are from Appleton, WI and I know a few of their songs because I happen to know the person who does their booking. I was really interested to see how they would be live. They had a great energy, which is why it was somewhat dissapointing not to see more people getting into the show. Especially in Milwaukee! These guys were representing the state! Oh well. None the less, I enjoyed their set very much and I think they have a great future.
Next on the bill was Swizzle Tree. Again, I wasn't familiar with this band, so already they had my attention from the get
go. The entire band was SO into every song they played it was amazing! I am a firm believer that as long as a band gets into their show, that everyone out in the audience will as well, and these guys proved it. Swizzle Tree is from Chicago and I know there were a LOT of kids representing Chicago at the show, so maybe that had something to do with everyone being into it as well. Either way, these guys rocked and be sure to check them out.
NOW onto what everyone is waiting for. Lucky Boys Confusion took the stage and the place went insane! It's just something about their stage presence that is just amazing. I loved the setlist from start to finish, which included a fresh mix of songs off their latest record, Commitment, and my personal favorite, Throwing The Game, as well as Growing Out Of It. Not too few and not too many songs were played off of each album. A definite highlight however, was "LBC" off of Growing Out Of It. I've seen them perform this song several other times and it is always amazing. However, personally, the best part of the show was a simply unbelieveable preformance of "Mr Wilmington" from Stubhy and Adam Krier. It is one of my favorite songs off Commitment and was my favorite part of the entire concert. "Broken" and "Closer To Our Graves" were some other great songs that they preformed off of Commitment.
Of all the great tracks Lucky Boys Confusion played off of Commitment, they played just as many off Throwing The Game. "Saturday Night" is always just crazy fun to watch them play anytime and this time again was no exception! Some other songs off Throwing The Game that they played were "One To The Right," "Breaking Rules," "Bossman," "Fred Astaire," and of course they closed out the show to the hard rocking "3 to 10." There's no doubt that Lucky Boys Confusion knows how to put out quality record after quality record as well as play quality show after quality show. This is great to see because it is something that seems to be disappearing from the music scene. There are those, however, such as Lucky Boys Confusion, who stay true to the music they love and create.
I can't stress it enough. Lucky Boys Confusion is amazing live! Do not miss them if they come to your town!
