NEWEST STUFF

Eighteen Visions/Midtown/lostprophets
Freebird Live
Freebird Live - Jacksonville, Florida
Monday, July 19, 2004

When walking to the Freebird, I honestly had no idea what I was getting myself into, which completely excited me.  It was thirty minutes before the doors opened and not very many people were there.  Once things started happening a little quicker and more people arrived, I then realized that this was going to be an experience I was not going to forget.

Eighteen Visions LiveWe finally got into the Freebird nearly a half hour after the show was scheduled to start and decided to stay downstairs rather than attempting the upstairs section, just as Eighteen Visions took the stage.  Prior to the concert I had only heard Eighteen Visions once or twice and did not know anything about them.  I decided to learn more about them after I witnessed their energy and the great live show they put on.  When it comes to value of sound, discarding the screamsEighteen Visions Live and the fact that we were in a small venue, it sounded really well prepared.  With the lead singer’s face resembling Matt and Tony Lovato from Mest and stage movements and poses such as Scott Wieland from Stone Temple Pilots, I have discovered a new obsession.

When the Eighteen Visions set of about eight songs and twenty minutes of preparing instruments for the next band was complete, Midtown began getting the crowd excited, causing several crowd surfers.  Playing just as crazy as possible, the lead singer, Gabe, decided to spin around and ended up hitting a mic stand with the neck of his bass causing it to fall severely close to a security guard’s head.  Guitarist, Tyler, was sweating so much that any movement at all would have Midtown Promo Shotsweat thrown completely across the room. It was obvious that Midtown was having a blast and trying to let the crowd in on it, even making jokes with the crowd such as Gabe calling Heath, the guitarist, Dave Grohl.  Despite a problem with no sound from a mic once, Midtown gave fans a good time and had a good time performing.

Once again, the wait for the next band was amazingly long, but was totally worth the wait.  Catching glimpses of shadows of lostprophets members would cause fans to begin yelling and setting the anticipation level even higher.  lostprophets Promo ShotWhen finally taking the stage, they started out playing “We Still Kill the Old Way” clothed in dress shirts and ties.  When Ian, the lead singer, announced that he was feeling under the weather that night, but decided to continue with the show several cheers continued, leading into “Wake Up,” getting the movements of everyone quicker and higher.  Despite his sickness, his voice was amazing along with the music.  If  “Wake Up” had left any fan not feeling the need to jump, “Last Train Home” did the job.  Before the last song was played, Ian jokingly insisted that we pretend he was Lost Prophets LiveMoses for a second and part like the Red Sea.  The objective was that when the song began, to basically move to the other side of the floor.  With the looks of terror on a few girls’ faces, I decided to not leave my brother’s side.  Once the final song was over, the members headed over to meet fans, along with Midtown and Eighteen Visions.

Overall, the show was filled with humor and enjoyment.  Each band played a really good set and got the crowd involved.  The line-up worked really well, with each band's sound complimenting the others.  I can say this with the proof of ringing still in my ears five hours later.  If this tour is coming near you, I suggest you check it out especially if it's in a small venue, even if you are not a huge fan of any band on the tour.  Ticket prices are a simple fifteen dollars each and definitely worth it.
