Ashlen/One Trick Arsenal/Every Avenue/The Goodbye Celebration/Cavalry/Ambleside
Oak Lawn Pavillion

September 25, 2004
So I walk into the Oak Lawn Pavillion and the first thing I see is a bunch of 12 year old girls in Good Charlotte t-shirts. I'm just thinking "what the hell?" What is the world coming to when you see some elementary kids in Good Charlotte
shirts going to local shows? Well, so I go to pay and two members of Ashlen are over there. Ryan Schutz (guitarist) is sitting down handling the money and Steve (drummer/vocals) is standing up next to Ryan. Steve asks me what bands I'm there to see and I say Ashlen and One Trick Arsenal. Steve tells Ryan just to put both down on this one paper (it's like a tally sheet) but Ryan isn't suppose to do that because the paper is helping them keep track of how much money they should have. So Steve is like 'Just put One Trick Arsenal down' and Ryan refuses. So finally they just put me down for Every Avenue since they had no votes. So I paid and went in.
Turns out that the first band, Ambleside, has already started playing. I spot two of friends over by the side wall and go over by them. So we were just sitting there and watching them play. They weren't that bad. At one point, my friend Neve was looking at the bassist and she's like "How is it that he looks better in girl pants than I do?" The funny thing about it was that it was so true. He had like the tightest girl pants I probably have ever seen on a guy and he looked really hot in them. It's so crazy how some how guys have managed to look better in girl pants than girls do. So after that, Kelly, Neve, and I go over by the crowd to watch Cavalry play. Cavalry is OK. I'm not that big on them.
Then we went back to over to the side wall. The Goodbye Celebration came. I believe they are from Canada. They weren't that bad. At one point, the lead singer was trying to get us to go over in the crowd, but my friends didn't want to so we just stayed in there. So then while they performing one of their songs he decides to come over to us and sing to us, but then his mic came unhooked. Then after The Goodbye Celebration was done, he came over by us to explained what happened. So then Every Avenue (I think they are from Michigan) comes on. They want us to go over in the crowd. So after a bit I manage to convince my friend, Kelly to go over there. Every Avenue was actually pretty good. The lead singer was kinda weird though because he kept saying he was gay and all these disguising things. So then after Every Avenue was done Kelly and I went and got their CD and a free sticker.
One Trick Arsenal was up next so I went back in the crowd and waited for them to play. So while I'm waiting I notice that the crowd is like 90% girls. I'm not too worried about mosh pits knocking me into the band like last time. Then One Trick Arsenal starts playing "Adding Insult to Injury." Then this kid shows up that ALWAYS starts mosh pits at One
Trick Arsenal shows, so chances of a mosh pit not starting totally got killed. So there were mosh pits starting in no time. One Trick Arsenal's set was a bit shorter than usually so they weren't able to play "Black Skies And Dark Stars."
Then after the One Trick Arsenal set ended, it was Ashlen's turn to play. I haven't seen these boys play in a really long time so I was pretty happy to see them play. There was only one song that they played that I didn't know. I think it was the first song they played, too. Ya, they did awesome. Ryan was really energetic during the set and he kept pointing to random people in the crowd. He was having a blast. Ya, one thing that sucked was that you couldn't hear Steve do his singing parts. At least, we were able to hear Bud's amazing vocals though. The last song they played was "Grievance," which is one of my favorite songs by them.
So after all the bands were done, it was finally time to go. Ya, I have to say that it was a pretty awesome show. It's definitely nice to hear Ashlen again, and see One Trick Arsenal play for like the millionth time.
