Ashlen/Gas Can Pickup/Pulsechoke/Now is Tomorrow/Fear of Deliverance

Oak Lawn High School
December 4, 2004
Well, one thing I can say about the show at Oak Lawn High School was that it was amazing and turned out way better than I expected it to. All the bands that I saw playing were totally awesome, especially Gas Can Pickup and Ashlen.
Well, the first band I saw play was Fear Of Deliverance, who has gotten a new singer since the last time I saw them. Their new singer was pretty good. Ya, they've gotten a bunch more energy than before. Their bassist actually moves more than a foot away from the main spot he stands at (last time I saw this band, he basically just stood at the same spot headbanging for 99.9% of the show). So I was happy that the band was finally moving around more than usual, because who wants to watch a band that has a few members that don't do anything but stand there a play and not really move around.
After that a band called Now Is Tomorrow played. They were pretty good. Their lead singer,
Ricky, was constantly beating his hand against his chest and tugging at his shirt and hair. He also moves around quite weird. They were a pretty awesome band. The last song they played was a cover of Taking Back Sunday's "Cute Without the 'E'." They played the first verse and chorus acoustic then played the rest normally. Then a punk kid named Bob joined in when Ricky was singing "Why Can't I Feel Anything for Anyone Other Than You?" and sang the rest of the song with them.
Then a metal band called Pulsechoke came on. I'd have to say that Pulsechoke is probably one of the best unsigned metal bands in the area. They put on an awesome show. Their two lead singers, Jason and Orville's voices (and screams) go nicely together.
So then after Pulsechoke, Gas Can Pickup takes the stage, which I end up having this tall ass kid, Al, who plays in a band called Destroyvale, standing right in front of me blocking my view.
Then the second Gas Can Pickup starts playing him, some of his bandmates, and a few others start clapping and dancing and just plain going crazy (which they continued doing for the whole show). So I have him out of my way in no time. Gas Can Pickup puts on some of the most awesome shows. They are even better now that they added two new members (now having seven members). Joe, who plays the synthesizers, and Parker, who plays keyboard, were throwing a tambourine back and forth to each other. At one point, their lead singer, Evan, was laying on the stage and their guitarist, Chris, sat down on Evan's knees and was playing. Gas Can Pickup played "Kiss the Ground," "Room For the Artificial," and a bunch of others. Even though they played a good amount of time, I still wish that they could've had a longer set because they were so awesome.
Then after Gas Can Pickup played, Ashlen came on. They had Christmas lights on their amps. The first song that they played was "She Walked Away." So a few of my friends and I pulled out our cell phones and were swaying along with the music until the band joined in on the song toward the very end. They played "Strive Against" after that. Which I immediately took notice that their bassist had way more energy than the last time I saw them (which wasn't that long ago). They covered a song by Jimmy Eat World and also a song by an older band that I can't remember the name of. At some point during the show, they started throwing out candy canes to the crowd. They played "Grievance" last, which that is always an awesome song to see played live. So Ashlen, overall, did as great as they usually do.
So if you asked me how the show was, I'd saw that everyone left without a face because the bands totally rocked everyone's faces off by the end of the show. Especially Gas Can Pickup and Ashlen.
