Release Date: August 10, 2004

With the overwhelming success of Rock Against Bush Vol 1, the series continues with an Current United States President George Busheven bigger line-up of bands and more songs.  Rock Against Bush Vol II was released just as the U.S. Presidential race started to gain momentum, yet there is still plenty of time for U.S. citizens to register to vote in November’s election, which is a major cause for the CD (besides the obvious, asFormer SNL funnyman Will Ferrell the name suggests).

As I’ve discussed in previous reviews, compilations can be a bit hit or miss.  Rock Against Bush Vol II, however, is the best compilation I’ve heard in a while, with enough excellent and really good songs to make it worth the purchase.

The CD features a huge 28 tracks with some big name bands joining the fight, such as No Doubt, Foo Fighters and Green Day.  The compilation once again features a DVD, filled with political shorts, comedy from funnyman Will Ferrell and others, as well as music clips from Alkaline Trio, Bad Religion, Flogging Molly, NOFX and Thought Riot.  As with the first volume, this CD is also made up of mostly rare and unreleased songs, making it even more valuable for your money.

The best songs would have to be Bad Religion’s “Let Them Eat War,” which many of you will know from their brilliant album The Empire Strikes First, Foo Fighters cover of the Angry Samoans song “Gas Presidential Hopeful John KerryChamber,” “Drunken Lullabies” by Flogging Molly, and No Use For A Name’s acoustic song, “Fields of Agony.”  Other songs that are worth a mention come from The Lawrence Arms, Only Crime and The Dwarves.

There are quite a few artists on this CD that I’m not a fan of, but I have to say a few of those bands impressed me with their contributions.  Sugarcult’s song “What You Say” is amongst the best on the CD.  Useless ID’s “State of Thinking” is also a winner, with Sleater-Kinney’s song “Off With Your Head” being very catchy indeed.

Basically if you liked the first album in this series, you’re gonna love this one, as it blows away its predecessor.  Whether you support the cause or not, Rock Against Bush Vol II, is worth it for the music.  Now we’ll have to wait and see if Fat Wreck can whip together the next installment before the election.  If they can, I look forward to it.
