The Weakerthans
Left and Leaving

Weakerthans_LeftandLeaving

Hopeless Records
August 1, 2000

Many are surprised to learn a band that produces songs with such simple honesty and emotion also sports a memberWeakerthans from angst ridden politically correct punk trio Propagandhi. The songs bear no resemblance to Propagandhi’s breakneck pace and angered delivery. However, the overbearing fervour possessed by each band passionate about their subject matter is their common bond. Mid tempo dual guitar rock songs structured with a rigid composition to slower mathy ballads ala American Football are what the Weakerthans offer on their debut full-length.

Distinctive low register vocals delivered with southern drawl add an unmistakable character and mixed with the narrative lyrical style yield songs easily digested by the listener. Although perhaps arriving a little late, the Weakerthans have joined the long list of emo 101 prerequisites with Left and Leaving and deservedly so.
