NEWEST STUFF

Sugarcult
Palm Tress and Power Lines
Sugarcult with Palm Trees and Power Lines
Artemis Records
Release Date: April 13, 2004

With art work that appears as if it was out of Romeo and Juliet, one of my personal favorite movies, I was stoked to Sugarcult Promo Photoopen up this disc and give it a spin.  In a recent interview with Tim Pagnotta, Surgarcult's front man, that I completed for XROXX with fellow XROXX Writer, Jayne Star, he shared with us his belief that the band has grown a lot since their last album.  I was curious to see their change and how Palm Trees and Power Lines was going to differ from their last album Start Static.  With the recent addition of their new drummer, Kenny Livingston, Sugarcult set out to make an album that shows who they truly are.

If you were expecting to be bouncing off the walls again, then you’re looking in the wrong spot.  Sugarcult ditched their poppy sound and went straight to the heart on this album.  The album kicks off with a song entitled, “She’s the Blade” which is an amazing song that screams for your attention. Their single, “Memory,” which was released on the “Punk Goes Acoustic” compilation is on the disc as well and is completely plugged in.  “Memory” is probably my favorite song on their new album; it’s loaded with amazing drums and Sugarcult Liveheart wrenching lyrics.  With lyrics like “Wasting half a year, waiting for you here, I’d be your anything,” how could you not fall in love with Sugarcult again.  Palm Trees and Power Lines is definitely going to make Sugarcult the next big thing, again.  In just over forty minutes, Sugarcult captures all of your attention and leaves with several songs stuck in your head for days.

Forced into a genre that they never fit in to begin with, Sugarcult is out to prove that their much more then a pop-punk band. On a scale from one to awesome this album definitely deserves a badass.  The album has a dreary sound to it that could only be found in a band that has as much talent as Sugarcult.  I don’t care if you have to rob K-Mart (don't cuz they need the money), beat up a five year old, or sleep with a fat chick, but you need to hear this album.

And congratulations to Kenny on his new baby boy from Jayne & Austin!!!
