Something Corporate
Leaving Through the Window

Drive-Thru Records
Release Date: May 7, 2002
Something Corporate is one of those Orange County bands that you can’t put in a genre. Their piano tunes and catchy lyrics make them different from other punk or emo bands that they share their record label with (Drive-Thru Records).
Leaving Through the Window is the CD that brought Something Corporate to stardom. Each song on the CD tells it’s own story, with lyrics that Andrew McMahon and Josh Partington composed themselves. The CD starts off with “I Want to Save You,” a song mainly about one of Andrew McMahon’s past loves and an excellent way to get you in the mood for some more Something Corporate. It then drifts into the next song “Punk Rock Princess” which could perhaps be one of Something Corporate’s most known songs and the song that made everyone quickly know their name. “I Woke Up in a Car” is the next song which is addicting with it’s catchy beat and irresistible lyrics. The next song is “If U C Jordan” which is a humorous ballad about a high school bully. The next remarkable track on the CD is titled “Hurricane,” which is followed by a softer
song called “Cavanaugh Park.” The eighth track on the CD is another popular song titled “Fall”and is followed by “Straw Dog” which has a rockier beat, without blowing SoCo out of their homemade genre. Next comes “Good News” with a similar beat to a lot of the other songs on the album and still sporting amazing lyrics. Then “Drunk Girl” comes on, a humorous tale about how he can’t believe that he “kissed a drunk girl.” “Not What it Seems” is a touching song that almost everyone can relate to. The second to last song is “You're Gone” which has the Something Corporate classic tune with matching lyrics. Then the CD closes with “Globes and Maps” which is one of Something Corporate’s lighter songs (don’t get me wrong, they do have a lot) with sophisticated lyrics that make you feel like you are in Andrew’s position.
So if you're in the mood for something a little different and just plan on sitting in your room thinking, this is perhaps the best CD for the job. I suggest everyone buys this Something Corporate classic, fan or not, because we all have those “Something Corporate kind of days.” This is a CD for all CD collections with open-minded owners.
