Senses Fail
From the Depths of Dreams

Drive-Thru Records
Release Date: April 29, 2003
Well, if I had to describe the lyrics on Senses Fail's From the Depths Of Dreams in one word, it'd be dark. Suicide, murder, and just plain death is what most of the songs are about on this album. You're probably thinking 'So what?
What's so exciting about that?' or something pretty close to that. Well, the way Senses Fail puts everything into words is just brillant. And any hardcore or screamo fan will definitely like this CD.
"Bloody Romance" is one of my favorite songs off the CD and is also the first one to ever get a video made for (which is absolutely amazing). It starts off with the guitar playing and all the other instruments joining in a bit later. The song is mainly about suicide. You realize this when Buddy sings "You saw me bleeding on the bathroom floor," followed by "This time in silence/this time I win," which is like a perfect way to
describe how some suicides are like in some situations. It also has awesome lyrics like "So slice open my veins/And let the romance bleed away."
Another more popular one is "One Eighty Seven." It starts off with guitar and Buddy joining in then the other guitar, then bass, and then finally the drums. It's very calm in beginning. It gets some life after he says "But now I'm dead." Then it gets pretty heavy when the chorus comes up. It especially gets heavy and very brutal at the bridge when he starts screaming "You ripped my hear out/You tore my eyes out/ Now you're gonna pay/I'll stab you one time/I'll eat your heart out so you feel my pain." Then after the bridge, he screams "I wanna kill
you, but now I'm insane" over and over 'til the end.
An interesting song off the album is "Free Fall Without A Parachute." I really like the guitar in the verses in it. Also, in the verses are lyrics about certain dreams that are a bit murderous. Example: "A five-year old tried to stop me but I shot him through the head/And now he's dead." One of the better lyrics in the song is "Oh, it's better to.../Rush upon this blade/Then give into the fear in your heart."
A more notable song by Senses Fail is "Steven." "Steven" is about a friend of the lead
singer of Senses Fail who died in a car accident. It sings "A brother lost a brother/a friend lost a friend/a mother lost a son but Steven's soul will never end." The song is basically saying goodbye to a young lost friend.
So if you're looking for something that's a bit different from the average (lyric wise and the sound of some of it), or just looking for something that you can sing (or scream) about insults to the average teenager ("I am not another stupid little teenage fucking whore") or about killing things ("To kill the whitest looking dove") then this record is for you. You'll find From the Depths Of Dreams just as good as their latest CD, Let It Enfold You.
