Northstar
Is This Thing Loaded

Triple Crown Records
Release Date: October 22, 2002
I popped this CD in and wanted to hear more after I heard the first track “Rigged and Ready.” Now I know why they put “Rigged and Ready” first. There’s not a whole lot after it that is very different/dynamic/interesting. Come to think of it, I think I’ve heard this CD before…in every other emo CD that sounds the same.
However, some high points are “Taker not a Giver," and “Train Hopping in Dixieland." These two songs do a little more for me than the rest of the tracks on the CD. There is nothing special about the vocals and sometimes it seems as if the songs are just way too complicated. Sometimes all a song needs is some simple riffs and it would be ten times better, I swear!
Citing a line in the Taking Back Sunday lyric book, it states, “Northstar is the greatest band ever....” I don’t know about that. No, I do know about that, and NO!
I’ve lost a lot of respect for TBS lately, especially all this drama with people leaving the band because of this and that. blah blah blah… I guess I shouldn’t sell them short though. They are truly living out the emo life.
Before this turns into a book on my views of Taking Back Sunday, I’ll finish up my review.
I’m a little sick of emo. OK, A LOT SICK! It just seems like nobody knows how to write a song about anything other than this wimpy, my girlfriend broke up with me, crap. I’ve heard the same story a million times, and lived it out myself; why in the hell would I want to hear it again from someone else? Other types of music do the love thing soooo much better than emo. One of my favorite bands of all time, Stabbing Westward, for example. If you want to hear some songs about love take a listen to them (minus the self-titled album).
Once again I have forgotten what I’m talking about. My final synopsis….
This CD is mediocre at best, but, hey, if you’re emo you may want to check it out (or if your girlfriend just broke up with ya or if your dog just ran away from home).
