My Chemical Romance
Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge

Reprise Records
Release Date: June 8, 2004
Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge is one of the best albums I have heard so far this year. The album is definite a big step up from My Chemical Romance's album, I Brought You My Bullets You Brought Me Your Love. Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge is an album that is based on My Chemical Romance's love for horror movies. It also has things that are based on real events, such as the death Gerard and Mikey Way's grandmother.
The CD starts off with "Helena," which starts off very quiet and calm and then goes loud and crazy when you least expect it. The disc has alot of depressing content in it such as the lyrics, "At the top of my lungs in my arms, she dies,"which is off their song, "The Ghost Of You." Don't let all that get you down.
"I'm Not Okay (I Promise)" is definitely a fan favorite and is the first song off the record that they made a video for. "I'm Not Okay" is a catchy song with lyrics such as "What will it take to show you that it's not the life it seems." It also has an awesome guitar solo that is followed by the claiming of being ok.
If you like The Used you should definitely check this album out because the one and only Bert McCracken is featured in "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison." The song has a lot of homosexual content in it, which Gerard feels like there isn't enough of in the music industry.
Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge has alot of great lyrical content. My favorite being, "Well never again, and never
again, they have us two shots to the back of the head. And we're. All. Dead. Now," which is off of "I Never Told You What I Do For a Living." Some other great lyrics are "If I die we'd be together", off of "The Ghost Of You," and "So I won't stop dying. Won't stop lying. If you want I'll keep on crying," which is off of "Cemetery Drive."
My Chemical Romance also puts together a bunch of sweet guitar solos. In a lot of their songs you can hear guitar solo sneaking its way in there. My favorite guitar solo is the one in "You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison." "Hang 'Em High" is a song that starts off having a western vibe to it, but then turns into a very hardcore rock song. How can it not be hardcore with Gerard yelling "The angels just cut out her tongue?
The cover art work, which is titled "Demolition Lovers II," and the tray card artwork, "Just the Way It Goes," is done by My Chemical Romance's own Gerard Way. Then the inside package has a page that is set up as a movie ad which, to me, is very cool.
One of My Chemical Romance's more morbid songs is "It's Not a Fashion Statement, It's A Fucking Deathwish." It talks about coming back from the dead and getting revenge. It has lyrics such as "I'm coming back from the dead. And I'll take you home with me. I'm taking back the life you stole." and "I will avenge my ghost with every breath I take." The album ends with "I Never Told You What I Do For A Living" which is a murderous song. This song has dark lyrics such as "Another knife in my hands. A stain that never comes off the sheets.", and then a bit more happier lyrics like "We'll love again, we'll laugh again. We'll cry again, and we'll dance again. And it's better off this way. So much better off this way."
Overall, My Chemical Romance's second album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, is an emotional, breath-taking CD that will leave a deep impression on you. Once it hits your CD player, you'll have a hard time getting it since it's so good. You'll refuse to ever stop listening to it, and will never get sick of it-- even if you play it a billion times.
