Midtown with Living Well Is The Best Revenge

Drive-Thru Records
Release Date: April 16, 2002

Drive-Thru Records was formally known as the label that broke New Found Glory and made punk rock more available through other bands such as Allister, Finch, and the Movielife.  However, lately, they have been getting the bad rap as the word on the street rants that they have turned into a monstrous, generic, mass-produced, pop-punk monstrosity.  I like most Drive Thru bands, Midtown is no exception.

MidtownThis disc was catchy and fun - just like a live Midtown concert.  "Get It Together," is an easy to sing along to anthem about staying together and working through the difficulties in a relationship.  "Faulty Foundation," "Like a Movie," and the first track on the album, "Become What You Hate" are three of the catchier tracks on the disk.  You will like those, but there really is nothing new there - it just sounds the same as what we've been hearing from this band and label in the past.  It's a decent album and you'll definitely dig it.  However, I'm just disappointed that Midtown was not able to evolve their music and increase their creativity and style to move beyond the pop-trash they are surrounded by at Drive Thru.

If you put this album on along with a few other Drive Thru bands and close your eyes, I guarantee that you would have a difficult time deciding if you were listening to Midtown, Movielife, or Allister.  Gladly, Drive Thru has signed a few harder and more original bands in the recent few months, so expect only better things form here on.  Please, please, please, please both Midtown and Drive Thru, don't continue to "Become What You Hate" and save yourself for the punk kids of the world.

XROXX rating: XXX (3 out a possible 5 X's)
