Lucky Boys Confusion with Commitment

Elektra Records
Release Date: October 21, 2003

In our accention from uber-emo, my crew and I bought Commitment, brought to you by our very-own Chicago-based LUCKY BOYS CONFUSION (LBC). I was able to recently attend an LBC concert and got a sneak peak at some new stuff. I would be lying if I didn't say that I thought that LBC had lost its edge. To my surprise and delight, the CD did not disappoint.

Lucky Boys ConfusionSticking to the original almost ska-like voice quality and not being afraid to experiment, have done well for them. The title track, "Commitment", has a cool, almost groove-like feel to it. With an efficient chorus, this song leaves the listener satisfied, but not eager. "Sunday Afternoon" is a subversive look at youth. The things we all did and some of the things we have all said to each other. Sample lyric, "Must've been a beautiful daydream You didn't come home till three Must've been a helluva joyride You didn't once think of me", stir up memories of being a fuck-up and the carefree way some live(d) their lives. I appreciated LBC bringing these memories back for me.

Near the end of the CD, we are are given "Ordinary", with guest vocals by Tom and Steve of Plain White T's. This song actually made me restless. Realizing that you and your life are in fact ordinary is an imprisoning thought. There is a need to escape and an uneasiness delivered to the listener. I may want to escape the ordinary hum drum life, but I do not want to go without this CD playing in my car...
