Home Grown
Kings of Pop

Drive-Thru Records
Release Date: June 25, 2002
Well, if I was asked to describe Home Grown's Kings Of Pop with only one word, it'd be catchy. Catchy is what you'd call most of the songs on the record. Thus, since it is catchy this CD is most likely gonna catch your attention, and catching attention is one of the key things in having a good record. If there's nothing that catches your listeners, they aren't gonna buy your CD since it'll most likely bore them to death. This brings us to the point, which is that Kings Of Pop is definitely a good CD that a lot of people are gonna enjoy.
When "You're Not Alone" first starts playing you pretty much expect some slower, sadder song. What you don't expect is a catchy upbeat pop-punk song, which is exactly what the song is. The verses are a bit in-between the expected and unexpected, but the chorus is definitely leaning toward the catchy upbeat sound. The chorus, also, gets stuck in your head very easily. So if you hear "I know what you're thinking/Whoooa/I know how you're feeling/Whoooa/Believe me/Whoooa/You're not alone" start up in your head and you eventually end up singing along with it, don't be surprised.
Well, you kinda feel like jumping along with "Kiss me, Diss me" when it starts playing. You also realize that they are pretty good at rhyming while still making sense when they start singing "You Kiss me/Then diss me/But now you say you miss me/And you used me/Confused me/But you don't want to lose me."
The first thing I think of when the lead singer says "Yeah, yeah" during "I Love You Not" is the black kids at my school because they say it the same exact way, which is kinda scary. My advice to Home Grown
: never say it like that ever again. This song sounds like a mix of Green Day and Blink 182. So if you can't find your Green Day or Blink CD, just pop this song on to make up for it and feed your crave for punk rock.
When you read the lyrics for "Waiting On Me," you'd think that some emo band has written them because some of the lyrics in there resemble your typical emo lyrics. It has lyrics like "Take this gun away/I'm not asking for sympathy/I'm not leaving so you won't win." It's less punk than most of Home Grown's other songs.
So if you're looking for some pop- punk to listen to, Home Grown is definitely something you should check out. You won't get bored while listening to Kings Of Pop.
