Hidden In Plain View Self-Titled Album
Release Date: November 11, 2003
Drive-Thru Records

I had never heard of Hidden in Plain View until I saw them live at the Bottom Lounge in Chicago.  They had opened up Hidden In Plain View Livefor The Early November and blew me away with a harsh, yet calming sound.  It just so happened that they had released their Drive-Thru debut that week, so I definitely picked this one up.  I really suggest you do the same.

I did a little bit of research on the band and bought their first EP entitled Operation: Cut Throat, which was released by LLR Records and sounds nothing like their new album.  Their self-titled album shows monumental growth.  This album flows together very well with much help from producer Chris Badami (The Early November, Dillinger Escape Plan). The album speaks of truth, broken dreams, broken hearts, and of course, girls.  After only sixteen or so minutes, vocalist Joe Reo leaves you begging for more.  The first song, "Shamans Witches Magic," gives a strong intro and leaves you Hidden In Plain View Livebreathless and intrigued, clinging on and waiting for the next song.  The lyrical content is amazing, for example "Your world is torched away, so let go up in flames, your world is torched away, and the fire in your heart is fueling the pain."

Hidden In Plain View LiveAnother interesting song on this EP would be "Where the Highways End," being right in the middle it was the perfect place for a more ballady-type of song.  The song speaks volumes about being strong and to never be broken.  My personal favorite song is  "20 below" which is their untitled track on the EP.  "20 Below" is perfect example of their diversity as the song starts slow and suddenly turns into a very hard number.

This Jersey based quintet is slowly but surely becoming a familiar sound in the genre.  After hearing this EP I'm way excited to hear their next release from Drive-thru records.  If you have a little bit of spare money, you should definitely check out this band.
