Hey Mercedes
Vagrant Records Vagrant Records have never been embarrassed to make shamefully poppy music and which after they then proceed to shove it down the public's throat. That's how they succeed, no one can really blame them. Unfortunately, Hey Mercedes is no exception to this rule.
If I had to pick a song that I liked on this release, it would be "Knowing When To Stop." Mass appeal at its best, but an overall good song. Call me a sucker, but I sometimes enjoy mass appeal. I would not run out and buy this one. I would wait 'til someone sold it back and pick it up second-hand. However, I would then burn a copy, and share it. So, I dunno. This disc leaves me on the fence - make up your own damn mind about it. I don't know what else to say, I'm just frustrated with this album. I like this band in general, but it's not a band I recommend to people off the sleeve. I thoroughly enjoyed their live show, complete with jumping teenagers, and inebriated twenty-somethings but wish they could carry this energy over onto their album.
