NEWEST STUFF

Good Charlotte
The Chronicles Of Life And Death
Good Charlotte with The Chronicles of Life and Death
Epic Records
Release Date:  October 5, 2004

As many Good Charlotte fans, I was so excited for this CD to come out.  I was dying to hear how well Good Charlotte’s shaped up to be.  I thought that The Chronicles Of Life And Death would be more heavy and less pop.  Well let’s just Good Charlotte Livesay I was pretty wrong and a bit disappointed.  The Chronicles Of Life And Death is very different from The Young And The Hopeless and Good Charlotte’s first album.

When I heard “Predictable” on the radio before The Chronicles Of Life And Death came out, I thought that this CD would be a tad better than the old ones.  Joel Madden (lead singer) had integrated yelling into “Predictable," which I found added more energy and enthusiasm to the song.  The guitar riffs were a little heavier than before, but nothing special.  When I heard the CD, I noticed that only once in a while you hear sort of heavy guitar riffs but it's not too shabby.  Some songs like this are “S.O.S” and “Walk Away.”  The heaviest song on this CD would have to be “Meet My Maker.”  “Meet My Maker” just doesn’t seem to fit too well with the extremely pop-rock songs on the album.

The guitar riffs are still amazing, even if they aren’t heavy.  Benji Madden, Billy Martin and Paul Thomas made their guitar Good Charlotteriffs much more complex.  I think it sounds terrific for the rock sound on the album.  And what goes really well with the pop scene is how Good Charlotte incorporated the keyboard into this CD.  You see this in songs like “The Ghost Of You.”  My only real problem is I hear no difference in the drumming.  It’s good drumming, but I was hoping for a change of some sort.  Overall, the band has stuck to the pop-rock scene very well.  These are the mature artists of this scene, who now classify what good pop-rock is.

The artwork on the cover of this album is pretty cool.  It looks like a diary or a journal.  It seems like it could mean that this CD was sort of like writing a journal or diary for Good Charlotte.  It must have been a very personal, everything from the heart, sort of CD.  The artwork adds a nice, deep, meaningful touch to the album.  If you like this CD, then I’m sure you’ll like a band called Last Week.  After giving Good Charlotte props for the awesome new album, I think you should check The Chronicles Of Life And Death out for yourself.  Available in Life and Death version.
