Glassjaw with Worship and Tribute

Warner Brothers Records
Release Date: July 9, 2002

July 9, 2002… Where were you? Still nursing a Fourth of July hangover? I hope for your sake the answer is no! If you weren’t out picking up Glassjaw’s sophomore release Worship and Tribute; follow up to 2000’s Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence then SHAME ON YOU!!! This album easily has my vote for best album of 2002. I don’t know if there’s a better way to spend $12…

GlassjawWhat’s that? You’re still here? You haven’t ran out to pick up you’re very own copy of Worship and Tribute????? Oh all right… I guess I’ll get to the review!

I’ve got one thing to say… "Am I worshipping or am I tributing?" The answer is WORSHIPPING every song on this album, even Convectuoso which was banned from the final retail of the album. The album starts out with "Tip Your Bartender" which is one of the harder, more Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence sounding songs on the album. The following song "Mu Empire" is one of my personal favorites off the album. This is a new direction for the band and I am loving it. As much as I enjoy the in your face sound to their harder stuff, I believe that Worship and Tribute is a huge jump for the band. Not only is the album more diverse than Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence, but it also shows off front man Daryl Palumbo’s dynamic voice. "Mu Empire" is one of the best examples of the strength of Palumbo’s vocals off of Worship and Tribute. This being said, let’s go into some highpoints of the album.

The first single, "Cosmopolitan Blood Loss" is a hit hard song with such lyrics as "We are the most impassioned ugly people" and had a video to boot! All I have to say about the video is that guy scares the shit out of me! Of course, the real ending to the video which portrayed the band being shot in an alley never saw the light of day until a version of it leaked onto the net. If you’re waiting to see it on T.V., don’t hold your breath. Glassjaw

"Radio Cambodia" is easily one of my favorite tracks off of Worship and Tribute. This track is also an entirely new sound for the band and I’m loving it more than the Packers beating the Bears!!!… I’m going to take some heat for that one. The song has ties to certain tragic events in United States history and the band is from NY. I don’t think I need to say anything else about that. Buy the album and listen to it.

OK PEOPLE!!!!!

I’ve come to the conclusion that I don’t need to keep telling you how awesome this album is. If you haven’t figured that out already, then I’m sorry but it’s time you stopped pretending to know good music and give into your urge to raid your little sister’s boy band collection.

Support the Band!   Buy the CD!
