Fiction Plane
Everything Will Never Be OK

MCA Records
Release Date: March 11, 2003
Fiction Plane recently toured with Something Corporate through the good ol' USA. To say the least, they were refreshing. The band fronted by the dynamic Joe Sumner, released a twelve song chill-pop album. Everything from being cool, to cigarettes, to politics and war are covered on this disc. And, of course, the occasional love song.
Everything Will Never Be OK can often times be misleading if ya ever give it a real close look. Reading the track list could cause a seizure of confusion. Song titles included in the track listing include "Listen to My Babe" and then five songs later, "I Wish I Would Die." Another track, "Cigarette" is without a question my favorite song on the disc and for good reason. This track is so seductive, it almost makes you want to start smoking just to be able to blow heart smoke rings. In all honesty, the lyrics are very harsh to girls who have apparently led Joe a little astray in his past love affairs. "Touch me cause my daddy's rich," is a shining example of that.
Oh, did I forget to mention that Joe is in fact Sting's son? There is a very striking physical resemblance as well as
having a nice set of pipes. (A great reason to see these guys in concert girls!!)
This is not a disc for those who are faint of heart. If you are willing to check the background history of the band, the music is very relevant. If you are looking for an instant gratification pop phenomenon, you are looking in the wrong place. There are a few instances found on the disk where the band sacrificed writing great lyrics for catchier, but dull rhyming phrases. Not all lines are supposed to rhyme, Joe, ask your dad about that one.
Even hailing from NYC, Fiction Plane has not received a lot of love here in the states. OK, I have to include one more hilarious lyric from the sarcastic pop trio: "We're cool, we're different, and we hate things, we hate people." That sounds like 90% of the livejournal posts made this year.
Every little thing isn't magic on this album, but it's still worth checkin' out. Enjoy!!
