Dead Poetic
New Medicines

Tooth & Nail Records
Release Date: April 6, 2004
So say you're looking for something that has a bit of a Thursday sound, but can go a bit harder than Thursday
and has more screaming, yet still has melodic vocals and manages to stand out a bit more than the rest. Well, Dead Poetic's album, New Medicines, is probably that something you are looking for. Brandon Rike manages to do amazing vocals and screaming and the overall sound of the band is amazing.
The title track, "New Medicines," is the most known song from the record. The verses have a more hardcore sound to them, but the song goes for a more melodic sound for the chorus. This is the type of song you want to see performed live because of the energy it gives off.
One of the songs that I noticed sounded a lot like Thursday, particularly the guitar riffs, was "Glass In the Trees." The song has more of an eerie vibe going for it and it's a lot more melodic than the rest of the songs. The song is about a close friend of members of Dead Poetic that died in a car crash and the relationship between the lead singer and their friend. It's actually a very emotional song that's a bit
depressing.
Another song I have taken a liking to is "Vanus Empty." It has a more upbeat sound to it in the verses, but as usual, the chorus is more melodic. The lyrics are also pretty interesting. Some notable lyrics off the song are, "It's a beautiful roe and everyone's aware/You squeeze it tight enough to bleed/but suicide is something we rather not mention here" and "And everyone is painted on, singing scripted songs/And your seizure like finger is dead on the
trigger."
A song that's a bit different from the rest is "Modern Morbid Prophecies." It's a rock song but it's a bit hard to describe the overall sound of the song. The verses and bridge have the more melodic sound to it instead of the chorus this time. Also, there's no screaming in it until it reaches the end of the song when "Don't make me choose, I'll choose you and this will all be over" gets screamed/sang.
New Medicines definitely blew me away with the sound of it. It's a pretty amazing record that has a lot of very emotional lyrics. So this is definitely a record you want to put on your list of records to get.
