Dashboard Confessional
A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar

Dashboard Confessional with A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar
Vagrant Records
Released: August 12, 2003

I think it's safe to say that we're all excited about the new Dashboard Confessional CD, especially after the recent abomination that we call Dashboard Confessional Unplugged.  Chris Carrabba has made quite a name for himself with being the king of MTV2, being on the cover of several magazines, and having his smash hit, "Hands Down," on The WB's One Tree Hill.   I think we were all wondering if he has lost it or not.

Dashboard Confessional in StudioNot only is Chris back with a jerkin' CD, but he is backed up with a band.  Scott Shoenbecknow (Bass), John Lefler (Guitar), and Mike Marsh (Drums) now accompany Chris into the big leagues. The album shows great experimentation with using distortion and fun new lyrical content.

The new disk starts out with a rad version of "Hands Down," which starts the direction of this entire CD.  The album is a real masterpiece.  By combining Carrabba's personal lyrics with the musical genius of his new band mates, these guys have made an album that is making people take notice.  Just when you think he has completely changed his style for good, you run into track six, entitled "Ghost of a Good Thing," which shows us Chris's older style.  A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar is loaded with Chris's trademark lyrics such as "Just bend the pieces till they fit, like they were made for it , but they weren't meant for this, no they weren't meant for this."

The album continues on with great song after another.  Eventually, you run into a song called "Hey Girl," a more catchyDashboard Confessional getting ready to lay down drum tracks upbeat song that keeps you hooked from beginning to end.  This entire album is more upbeat than all of Chris's previous releases.  So, if you're a Dashboard fan, this is a must.  I will admit this is not my favorite release from Dashboard Confessional, though it is a great CD, nothing will even hold a match to Swiss Army Romance.

With A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar, Dashboard will no longer be the big thing that no one has ever heard of.  The album is shocking the music industry and doing so at an alarming rate.  With being in the top 40 best album sales nationwide and featured in articles explaining how to have Chris Carrabba's hair, I don't think anyone knows what's next for these guys.  A Mark, A Mission, A Brand, A Scar is slowly making Dashboard Confessional the new face for emo.  Dashboard is slowly, but surely carving themselves into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.  I really think you should buy this album.
