There was once this theory that rock 'n' roll was supposed to be a dangerous rebellion against the conformed world. Butch Walker - Courtesy of www.butchwalkerfansite.com and the photographer is NielsenThere once was a band called Marvelous 3 that epitomized that very thought.  Maybe they were a bit ahead of their time or just a little too late.  Maybe there's a reason why South Gang never took off.   However, Butch Walker, lead singer/guitarist of Marvelous 3,  obviously never received this memo.  Butch Walker's latest solo attempt, Letters, is nothing more than the aftermath of a bad car accident, shattered pieces of what once could have a been a good career.  Granted, everyone is allowed to change artistic styling, and in fact, it's welcomed. However, when your album consists of Degrassi Junior High rock and roll, such a reincarnation would have been better left off as an alcoholic joke at the bar with a friend.  As opposed to be mass released to the general public inButch Walker - Butch Walker - Courtesy of www.butchwalkerfansite.com and the photographer is Nielsen a tired attempt to hold on to your musical career...Butch keep producing tracks for Avril Lavigne ("Happy Ending") and releasing your material on Agent Cody Banks soundtracks.

It's incredibly difficult to find something tangible within this train wreck.  But alas, one last glimmering light, "Best Thing You Never Had" gives me hope that this album isn't a complete waste.  I hoped that the final three songs could redeem him, but no, oh no, covered by layers of piano and lyrics that Chris Carabba (Dashboard Confessional) wouldn't use in his vocabulary of sap, Letters crashes and burns with the final line, "So as I'm writing this thank you note/there's just one thing she wanted you to know/just before she had to go/she said that she liked you"...OH GOD!  Somebody hit the reset button!!!!

With rock like this, no wonder kids like rap.
