Bad Religion with The Empire Strikes First
Epitaph Records
Release Date: June 7, 2004

Whether you like them or not, Bad Religion are a band you all would be familiar with. They have been around for over 20 years now and have released over 15 albums and EP’s, which is a pretty amazing achievement.Bad Religion

Despite this, Bad Religion is showing no signs of slowing down, releasing their follow-up to 2002’s The Process of Belief and preparing to support it by doing this summer’s entire Warped Tour. The material from their new album, The Empire Strikes First, will make for great shows on the tour.

The Empire Strikes First is definitely a better album than "comeback" album, The Process of Belief, and this probably has something to do with the lyrics. With the war in Iraq, lead singer Greg Gaffin has a lot more to sing about and he does so with passion. Bad ReligionCommon themes that arise in almost all the songs are to do with the U.S. Government, the Iraq War, and the church.

"Los Angeles Is Burning" is the first single from the album and many of you may have already seen its awesome video. While it is a good song, it is by no means one of the best songs in the album, making it a surprising choice for first single.

The best song on the album is definitely "Let Them Eat War". This song is awesome, with clever lyrics and guest vocals by political hip-hop artist Sage Francis. The other highlight song on this album is "Sinister Rouge", which is set up perfectly by the intro preceding it. It’s the best start toBad Religion an album I’ve heard in a long time.

The Empire Strikes First is an energetic album that stays true to the band’s style. I have no doubt that after hearing the album, a lot of fans will be a lot more excited about seeing them on the Warped Tour, and it will be interesting to see how these songs sound live.

Bad Religion’s The Empire Strikes First is a great album from a legendary band.
