Alkaline Trio with Good Mourning

Vagrant Records
May 13, 2003

My best friend is an Alkaline junkie.  Like seriously, band tattoo and all.  She had this disc on order three months prior to release.  I was a little disappointed, but what can you do?  As a follow up to From Here To Infirmary, I thought this disc Alkaline Triowas a hit.  However, Alkaline has not been up to my expectations since Goddamnit!!. They used to be more edgy original, and now I feel the band is looking for mass appeal, which is something that is happening to way too many bands out there today.

"We've Had Enough," was their first radio song from the disc.  Ironically, the song was about the shear crap that is played on public radio.  As much as I love Alkaline, I think they were right on that one.  Just because kids can scream along, and ad-lib the word "fuck" that is screened out by censors, does not mean the song is good (unless we are talkin' about The Transplants!!!).  I got so tired of hearing that song that I shelved my disc.

I would buy this disc again to complete my collection, or to listen to "Every Thug Needs A Lady," over and over again, cause that's really the only track I loved... Let's all hope that Alkaline can find that original sound that they lost before they make another album - for the kids of course, but also so that my best friend can wear her Alkaline tatoo with pride once again.

XROXX Rating:   XX   (2 X's out of a possible 5 X's)
