Sing The Sorrow

AFI with Sing The Sorrow

Dreamworks Records
Release Date: March 11, 2003

Okay. First off, I gotta say (and I know I'm being completely unobjective) that this CD has got to be the best CD I have ever heard, and I’ve heard a lot of CD's.  AFI has put out a lot of CD's in their career as a punk band, but this one is by far their best yet.  A great band like them can only get better in time, right? They get better with each CD they put out and each concert they put on.  You can see incredible growth in their sound and lyrics as they have progressed from Black Sails in Sunset to The Art of Drowning and now to this latest album.

Some people may think that AFI are selling out now that their videos are being played on MTV more and once I even saw that "The Leaving Song Part 2" was a close call for TRL.  However, I don’t think that they are selling out at all.  They have been holding true to their music, themselves, and especially, their fans throughout their whole career.  They will continue to hold true to their music, themselves, and their fans for as long as they sing, play guitar, and drum away as they have always done.

AFIAll the band members are incredibly amazing.  Davey, oh my God, his voice is incredible.  It mesmerized me when I first heard it.  His golden vocals continue to mesmerize me and should be one of those voices that people just recoginze through the ages like Kurt Cobain or somethin'.  He’ll never ever lose the quality in his voice that he has now.  It’ll forever be there.  Jade and Hunter, oh man, amazing guitarists.  Especially when I see Jade twirl his guitar around and still get it back in time to play his part.  Amazing.  Adam does an amazing job on drumming. They all make me want to play the drums, sing and play the guitar.  I kind of sing now, but yeah.  You don't often see showmanship like this anymore in the music world - these guys have it perfected.

Of the many incredible lyrics found in AFI's songs, the one that sticks out in my mind the most is "Poisoned hearts will never change" from "The Leaving Song" because I think this speaks true meaning that when someone’s heart is broken, they will not change their mind about that person.  This band will never, ever lose their quality in sound, in lyrics, and especially in their love for their fans.  I am a proud AFI fan and I suggest that other people, if you're not a fan or never heard them, go out and buy their CD's and have a blast listening to them, because I know I do. Rock on…rock on.

XROXX Rating: XXXXX (5 X's out of a possible 5 X's)
