An Interview with Dan of A Static Lullaby
A Static Lullaby
April 6, 2005

I had incorrectly copied down the number of A Static Lullaby’s tour manager in my book.  I called and called the number I had and repeatedly got a Vietnamese woman on the other line.  Desperate and full of despair, I called their label and thankfully there was someone to return my calls.  After everything was sorted out, I was whisked backstage, up and down stairs, around corners, through the production office, and then finally to a common room.  There were rock stars, wanna-be’s, and even some groupies.   Had this been my first interview ever, I may have passed out. However, it was not.  So, me in my blazer and he in his, the interview went on. A Static Lullaby

XROXX:  What’s the story behind your new video “Stand Up?"
Dan:  The story is like following a dollar through Hollywood, and its everyday use.  Not the everyday life, but like the background life of Hollywood.  The dirty and gross life, because that is what the song is about.  It’s cool, we’ve got people playing craps and hookers, stuff like that.  Some kid robs a convenience store and gets the dollar.

XROXX:  The new CD, Faso Latido, is awesome.  Were you writing more from personal experience or is it more conceptual?
Dan:  The last album was more personal.  This one is more, like, being on the road and talking to bands.  Some situations we talk about we had actually been in though.  It’s a lot about the music industry all together.  It’s very sarcastic as well.  Some of the songs are personal, and then some were written from outside sources such as watching a movie and being inspired.

XROXX:  What is the best part of being part of the Taste of Chaos tour?
Dan:  My favorite part of this tour is not having to headline, because we have been headlining for like two years straight.  I’m looking forward to it again down the line, but it’s good to open again, and to prove yourself and show your stuff.  It’s fun.

A Static LullabyXROXX:  What is something personal that you would want your fans to know?  Make a statement to them directly.
Dan:  We don’t want to be icons or people you idolize.  We’re not the greatest people ever.  We get on stage and play music.  We do it because we love it.  We get more pleasure from it than anyone else does.  Don’t consider us rock stars, if we get bigger that is.  We don’t want that kind of label.  We don’t want the screaming girls, but we know it could happen.  If you’re reading this, we’re not into that kind of worship.

XROXX:  Where on Earth did you come up with some of the titles on Faso Latido?
Dan:  I dunno girl.  We sit around and are like “so, what’s the song called?” “How about Half Man, Half Shark Equals One Complete Gentleman?”  We’re just silly like that.

XROXX:  What has the transition from Ferret Records to Sony Music been like?
Dan:  We’re definitely nervous.  I was more nervous writing the album, but they loved it.  Sony has been very supportive.  Ferret was supportive too.  But, as of now, the whole thing runs smoother, because we have a lot of people working for us instead of doing it ourselves.  As far as the friendships and families go, it’s pretty equal.  Ferret was amazing to us.  More stuff will kick in with Sony as soon as the album drops.  We’ll get more of a response and responsibility from the label.A Static Lullaby

XROXX:  What would you be doing if you weren’t in a band?
Dan:  Probably working at the bank still since that was the last job I had, I dunno.

XROXX:  Who specifically do you admire; who drives you?
Dan:  Billy Corgan, guys like that.  I admire my dad.  Joe, in my band, drives me a lot.

Other than being ridiculously hot in my fashion jacket, all was well in the land of Chaos for the rest of the evening.  Bands went on and off stage, kids bought shirts, and free stuff was shoved down the throats of the droves of concert goers.  It was good to go to a show again.
