A Phoner with Trevor

Trevor, the singer from the metal-core band, UnEarth, dropped me a line last week.  We talked about music, parents, touring, Head Banger's Ball, OzzFest, and hard-core.  I found him quite interesting.  This is what was said...

XROXX: Thanks for taking time off of your tour to call us.  Where are you playing tonight?UnEarth Live
Trevor: Memphis.  It's real nice here.  It's a lot better than Boston weather-wise.

XROXX: What has the Head Banger's Ball experience been like?
Trevor: It's been totally positive.  It's been a different tour for us, a different stlye of bands.  We've gone out on tour with Hatebreed before so it's a familiar crowd.  The Damage Plan/Drowning Pool crowd is different for us, that's why we took the tour.  These fans are more similar to the ones that will be at OzzFest, so hopefully, we will go over well with them.  They will be knowledgable of our music.

XROXX: So, I take it you are signed to OzzFest?
Trevor: Yes, we are doing OzzFest this summer.  It's an honor to be on that tour, especially this year.  We will be with Ozzy, Slayer, Hatebreed, Slipknot, Lamb of God...the list goes on and on.

XROXX: Do you see the tour being incredibly successful?
Trevor: Yeah!  I have heard that most of the dates are sold out already and that's just amazing!  Even if the shows were horrible, they won't be, we are still on tour with all of our friends' bands on the second stage.  So, it'll be fun.  We can't wait.

UnEarth LiveXROXX: You just signed to Metalblade Records, correct?
Trevor: Yes, we signed to them in October.  We were on Eulogy Recordings before.  Then, we got on Metalblade, and we have a full length coming out June 29th called Oncoming Storm.

XROXX: Tell us about the new disc.
Trevor: It's our best material to date.  We just got a lot better at being us.  We got older, better at our instruments, and just made better music.  We're all extremely excited about this record.  The disc comes out before OzzFest begins,
but we are planning some in-stores or something for the release.

XROXX: Are the crowds very different in different parts of the country?
Trevor: The only way it varies is that different kids wear different clothes.  The West coast kids wear tighter clothes and eye make-up sometimes.  Other than that, in every city, kids act mostly the same.  They either mosh or dance
and sing along.  It's a good time.  Obviously, bigger cities means bigger crowds, but we have pretty balanced support across the country.

XROXX: What do you do on tour when you are not playing?
Trevor: Sightseeing in the different cities.  I actually like to take walks.  We get loaded in and do sound check and then I take a 30-45 minute walk to take in the surrounding area.  Then, meeting new people and making friends across
the country.

XROXX: If you weren't in the band, what would you be doing?UnEarth Live
Trevor: I'd be doing something in music.  I own a record label, Iron Clad Recordings, and that's what I want to get into if the band ends.  It's what I am doing now and will continue doing.

XROXX: Who are some of your influences?
Trevor: I got into rock when I was real young.  My father was a rock and roll hippie.  He had thousands of records and played them all day in the house.  I grew up listening to CCR, the Stones, the Beatles.  Then, when I was 3, I asked
for my first KISS record.  I dug the make-up the dudes wore.  By the time I was in fourth grade, I heard Guns N' Roses, Anthrax, then Metallica.  From there I got heavier into death metal, then hardcore.  My biggest influences would be
Anthrax, Pantera, Black Sabbath, and Earth Crisis.

XROXX: Any bands you would recommend keeping our eye out for?
Trevor: Two bands on my label, If Hope Dies and Since the Flood.  Also, the Red Chord, and Black Daliah Murder.

Trevor has the coolest Boston accent.  I strongly recommend seeing them any time they come to your area.  All good things to come for them.  Thanks for the call and thanks Jensen for arranging it.
