The Good, the Bad, and the Leftover Crack

There’s no such thing as leftover crack…

Except for the Good Leftover Crizack of course.  For those of you familiar with bands like Choking Victim, Morning Glory, Leftover Crack with Rock the 40 Oz.Crack Rock Steady 7, and Leftover Crack, you know what I’m talking about.  These New York City squatters have started God knows how many bands and surprisingly, some of them are pretty damn good.

Even more surprisingly, they have been getting some decent exposure…They write songs about many touchy subjects including homosexual uprisings, killing cops, drinking and, of course, smoking crack.  Their latest album, originally entitled Shoot the Kids at School, was the first time anyone even tried to censor these guys.

No matter how offensive the lyrics and titles get, there’s always one thing you can count on with their bands, the most perfect blend of hardcore and ska that you could imagine.  In my opinion, they are the only ones who have successfully pulled off this transition and have done it well.  That’s why I chose to write this weeks column about them, it’s brilliant.  “Satano Politikal Ska Punk” is what they call it.

Amrican DistressFor all of you who haven’t heard them, go out to the store and pick up No Gods, No Managers by Choking Victim.  While you’re at it, you could also get Mediocre Generica by Leftover Crack.  These are two CD's you’ll want to have in your collection.  Also, Leftover Crack releases their newest album sometime within the next few months (I can’t find an exact date), so be on the lookout for that.  They will also be releasing a Split CD with F-Minus on Hell Bent Records on March 9th.  You can pre-order the album below!
