Plea For Peace 2004
Since 2000, Suburban Home Records and the likes of Mike Park have been stomping across America and other countries promoting peace. Along with the tour, a CD sampler is distributed as well. Plea For Peace is one of the more memorable tours that music fans look forward to every year. Every year they manage to gather some of the biggest names in indie rock to help them promote their goal of peace and to bring attention to issues such as homelessness, racism, child abuse, spousal abuse, and modern day slavery that all need to be addressed by a generation who has turned a deaf ear.
The Plea For Peace Foundation encourages kids to rise up, be constructive, do something, and smile. I have gone to Plea For Peace through the years and I personally endorse their message. My friends and I volunteer at a homeless shelter on Thanksgiving to help serve those less fortunate. Any small thing you can do makes a difference. This year’s Plea For Peace is taking on a topic that has been all over the music business. Not file sharing, but the upcoming election. From MTV to Fat Wreck Chords, companies are making their statements about the presidential candidates. Plea For Peace is not taking sides, they are encouraging people to do that themselves by voting. Below is their mission statement. Please read it and take it to heart. The Plea For Peace Foundation and Music for America are proud to bring you the 2004 Plea For Peace Tour.
In 2004, music will take on a huge role in the electoral process. This upcoming election is perhaps one of the single
most important events for us as voting citizens and we have made it our primary goal to actively participate in the significant months and days leading up to the election. The tour will take a non-partisan stance and focus primarily on the power and importance of the electoral process itself. The main objective is to get youth communities and young adults excited about voting, let them decide what is right for them, and give them a voice for the future. Voter registration will be available in all cities and concert-goers will be able to register with any party. In order to support media diversity, the tour will play non-Clear Channel venues only. A dollar from each ticket will be donated to a charity of the artists' choice. Peace always. Do the right thing. Do something.
