XROXX BAND OF THE MONTH

FEBRUARY 2004

ANGELS HEART

Angels Heart

Angels Heart had an interesting beginning. Bryan Joseph, the frontman and founder of the band, actually made the first album, Sixty-Eight Cutlass, himself. He then put the band together and the story starts to get interesting there. He met Jeff Ott, the guitarist and back-up vocalist for the band, at a pizza shop on Melrose Avenue, just down the block from where Bryan lives. He found Mike D., the drummer the old fashioned way, through a musician's ad in a magazine. The last component of Angels Heart is bassist Johnny Walker, who Bryan met while out for a casual stroll down the street. He looked him up and down and randomly asked him if he played bass.

After hearing that story, you're probably thinking one of two things. Either the band isn's going to be around long because these guys don't seem serious, or it was destiny. I'm more inclined to believe the latter. The band has only officially been around since September 2003, but they are already making waves in the Los Angeles and U.S. music scene. The CD has already been downloaded over one million times...for free.

Angels HeartAngels Heart is trying to be unique in a world full of imposters. The band truly believes in giving back to their fans and making it big the D.I.Y. way. They spent a ton of cash on their debut CD Sixty-Eight Cutlass and are now giving it away free online, any way they can. The band has the entire CD available for download from their website, plus, if you buy one of their many t-shirts, hoodies or girl's t-shirts, they'll toss in a free copy of the physical CD. In addition, the band has the artwork available for download so you can produce their actual CD for yourself!

"...if you help out and support the band, and we can prove that bands can give music away for free without starving, then maybe...just maybe, others will follow in our footsteps and fans can have access to free music always. So your support is invaluable. Whatever you can do will be greatly appreciated," Angels Heart says on their website.

All the band asks of people who download the MP3's is that they pass on the contact info of a couple friends who might also be interested in Angels Heart music. The CD was mixed by Jim Goodwin (Face To Face) and Justin Koop (Grade - Victory Records).

Angels HeartAngels Heart released the CD in September 2003 and immediately went on a national tour that encompassed 19 states from America's left to it's right and from it's top to it's bottom. Included in their trip was California, Colorado, Arizona, Minnesota, Missouri, and others. Not bad for a D.I.Y. outfit.

The band's philosophy is simple. "I think we just want to write great music that makes a difference," said frontman Joseph. They do that and a whole lot more. They're a band that you really root for to succeed, just so you can then turn around and tell Metallica and Hillary Rosen, President of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) to "Shove your lawsuits up your ass!". XROXX is pulling for them and we're confident that after you hear their music, you will be too.
