When people in and around Eugene, Oregon think of energetic pop-punk music, wacky on-stage antics, and back-flips, they are most likely thinking of alterEGO. With an overabundance of energy and a keen willingness to make fools of themselves, and songs that will make you laugh, make you cry, or simply make you wet yourself; alterEGO is not an easy band to forget.
alterEGO is a four-piece alternative, coming-of-age, pop ”punk” band from Eugene, Oregon. The band is made up of Taylor Morden on guitar and lead vocals, Tony Jacobson on guitar and vocals, Gary Roberts on bass, and Nao "the samurai" Horota on drums. Formed in the summer of 2000, alterEGO has quickly made a name for themselves playing with the likes of Yellowcard, The Julianna Theory, Vendetta Red, and countless local and touring artists. After playing around the Pacific Northwest and slowly building a strong following, in the summers of 2002 and 2003 alterEGO completed two international tours, playing dates in both the USA and Japan.
Taylor started alterEGO with a vision: to play music for fun. So many people take music too seriously. alterEGO is based upon a simple set of beliefs that music made for fun is simply more fun to listen to. Over the years, band members have come and gone, but the focus remains intact. “We’re a group of 22 year old kids that just want to rock!”
With an ever-present focus and drive to make everyone in America hear their noise, alterEGO is one band that will be around for a while. The most recent of the band's six independent releases, Station!, is their most triumphant album to date. Featuring some re-recordings of old favorites, and more than a handful of awesome new songs, as well as a rockin' cover of Paula Abdul's "Straight Up."
The future is looking good for this group of pranksters from the northwest. In the winter of 2003 alterEGO signed a Japanese distribution deal and will be releasing a Japanese version of their latest album Station! in Japan this spring. An extensive U.S. and Japan tour is set to follow in the summer of 2004.
