Just who the hell do TIED FOR LAST think we are?

We’re a Metro New York-based rock band that's currently making a considerable splash on the world-famous downtown NYC music scene.

Our diverse and highly infectious sound combines elements of punk, pop, sixties garage rock, rockabilly, and at times, even country and metal.  We infuse our songs and shows with manic energy, catchy hooks, and a healthy dose of humor.

Rancid meets Everclear?  Cheap Trick meets the Clash?  Green Day meets Tony Orlando and Dawn?  Call us pop/punk...Call us alternative...Call us whatever the hell you like, just don’t miss our kickass shows or you’ll be sorry!

Don’t say we didn’t warn ya!

Tied for Last was born in the Summer of 2001, when guitarist Tom D’Angelo responded to vocalist Stephen Scollard’s Internet post searching for musicians to form a punk band.  Upon meeting, the two discovered they had a lot more music in common than just punk, and took to jamming every week in Stephen’s living room on everything from Rancid, Ramones and Green Day covers to songs by the Monkees, Paul Simon, and Rick Springfield.  They also wrote their own songs.

Knowing that two acoustic guitars isn’t enough to call a band, the boys broke out their amps and went in search of a rhythm section.  After a few unsuccessful attempts at working with assorted bassists and drummers, Tom saw an Internet posting by a bass player looking to form a band for the purposes of “getting drunk, and playing two-minute, three-chord songs to our drunken friends at the bar.”  Tom responded immediately, and the boys met Lally at NYC’s Kenny’s Castaways (later, the venue of the band’s first official gig).  Lally was in.

Meanwhile, John Geller had responded to one of the boys’ earlier posts and, despite having played in numerous blues-rock cover bands, swore that he was up to the challenge of an original punk band.  He was right.

The band first practiced together in April of 2002, and discovered that they were a lot better than they had ever planned on being.  They played their first gig in June and have been playing regularly ever since.

Late in 2002, the boys recorded their first LP, entitled Sorta Live.  It will be released imminently, but in the meantime, check out most of the songs in convenient MP3 form right here.

In July 2003, the boys parted ways with their bassist and opted to continue as a three-piece.  Less then a month later, John Battistini answered their Internet ad and joined up, making Tied For Last a quartet yet again.

All of the boys write songs.  This means that, while they stay within the boundaries of traditional punk (energetic, melodic, catchy, and FUN), they bring all sorts of different influences to the table.  Hence, THE SONGS DON’T ALL SOUND ALIKE, YET THEY ALL KICK ASS.

Don’t believe us?  COME TO A SHOW!
