Falling behind consists of Aaron Hayes (vocals), Shane Borger (drums), Matt Long (bass), Josh Hollendsworth (guitar) and Nick Tirey (guitar). It all started when Shane and Matt were just playing around with some friends, never really going anywhere with the groups. Their first dabble into writing original songs was with guitarist Kyle Bohnart. Together they formed a band called punk 44, a band with high ambitions but no connection. After two attempts at being a band they finally gave up and Shane and Matt decided to look for a new band. Shane knew Aaron Hayes from Drumline and knew he liked to sing (because he never stopped singing Sublime songs) so he talked to Matt and tried to get something started. But as luck would have it Aaron was already in a band called Unadulterated and they needed a bassist so Matt took the spot.
After a few gigs around town like battle of the bands at Bogarts and playing at Top Cats and Skunk - a - rifics, they broke up due to most of the band going away for college. So Shane, Matt and Aaron hooked up to play some songs together for fun. They ended up playing together at two parties and the variety show at their school. Things were finally looking up. If things couldn't get any better, Shane and Aaron met Josh Hollendsworth in a guitar class and knew he had talent so they now had a full group.
They performed some cover songs at a variety show again and gave themselves a name, Random Head Trip, but that name was not too good so they went nameless for awhile. They started writing a couple songs together and went through some trial and error with finding a second guitar player when Nick Tirey was recommended. He turned out to be a great asset to the band. Soon after they dubbed themselves Falling Behind based off a joke that Josh had told the band.
Each member contributes his own style and influences: Nick is into classic rock like Poison or AC/DC, Josh is into multiple genres but is influenced mainly by heavy metal and Led Zeppelin, Shane is the oddball of the group with reggae, punk, ska, emo and Dave Matthews influences. Matt and Aaron are like a mixture of everyone in the band, metal, punk and some reggae. Aaron, Shane and Matt are all Sublime fans so that's a huge influence within the band. Now they hope their different musical influences will make them write unique music and escape all genres or lables. They all have one main goal; to be friends, have fun, and make great music to make the crowd wild.
