Robert Partridge and David Hahn were sitting around one Friday night, when suddenly, a magnificent thought came into the mind of David Hahn. "We should write a song together," he said. It was a genius idea. Robert and David both loved music but neither were firmly in any band at the time. The idea came to life on February 28, 2004, as mutual friend, Jesse Gay, gave David a ride over to Robert's house for the first writing session. Jesse Gay picked up the keyboard that was in the room, and after taping the plug in so the power wouldn't keep turning off, we realized the keyboard was an essential ingredient to the success of Alf's. A few months later, Jason Gonion joined the band to help out in the drums department. On May 25, 2004, (Robert’s birthday) Alf’s locally released it’s first effort, Helen Keller Said “Wa Wa” after having previewed a few of the tracks on purevolume.
The CD includes 14 tracks including songs about planetary relations (Jupiter), celebrity similarities (Deba Carventire), as well as bathroom worries (Will it Flush). Now, Alf’s is putting the final touches on Return to Melmac, the follow up to Wa Wa. This CD includes issues such as the wrong kind of spit-swapping (Toothbrush Incident), a love cry to a tennis star (Miss M Sharapova), and also an unorthodox look at student-teacher relationships (Friends with Our Teachers). Clara Loginov has now taken over on keyboard after Jesse Gay's departure for school.
