NorthEast PunkRockSka band. Since 1998!!---An agressive sound that you get hooked onto, that's 3against1. They have French and English lyrics that have messages filled with emotions, with a post-modern way of thinking. They question our values as a neo-liberal society.
They are now a mature band and want to be seen on the musical scene. After six years of planning, preparation and concentration, 3against1 is ready to be revealed to the public. The fun they have playing only compares with how they are determined to continue to play music!!------------
The 3 against 1 project began in 1998 when four good friends got together every Saturday in St-Rosalie, a little town on the south shore of Montreal. They got the group together to do the thing that motivates them the most: music. At that time, the group was named River Rats. They would make cover songs from a lot of different styles of music, but they were already influenced by the punk rock sound. They loved to play music but they were not very good. This young band was composed of four members; Maxime Danserau (Drums, 1998-2201), Julien Gauvin (guitar 1998-current), Jean-François Girard (volcals, 1998-current), Jean-Frederique Bordeleau (bass, 1998-2002).
The group will have to wait one whole year to do their first show. It's in Montreal that their first punk rock compositions will be heard for the first time. The show will be their motivation to continue to perform and it also gave them more visibility from the public. The next two years were very important for the group. In 1999, J-F Girad played guitar and remained the singer. The band then found their name in the year of 2000: 3 against 1. That name will represent the band a lot more.
At the height of that period in 2001, they launched a demo called Eat your Carrots. This demo sounded more like ska than the previous compositions. The demo was distributed by White Square Records, the company was founded the same year by Girard and his colleague Gauvin. This company aims at the distribution and the promotion of the group, at that time Julien Gauvin became the singer.
After recording the demo, Maxime Danserau left the group to concentrate on his career. It's Patrick Desrochers (drums, 2001-2003) who replaced him as the drummer. The band will take their chance to be heard on the radio with the song " à quoi avez-vous pensé?" This song will be heard on the air of two radio stations CHOI 98.1 (Quebec city) and COOL-FM 98.5 (Montreal). Later that year, the same song appeared on the compilation Hurry Up, produced by White Square Records. In 2003, 3 against 1 participated in their first big concert. The concert was Ska vs. Ska at Club Soda, and it featured Alaska and the Gamblers. This show was produced by White Square Records and it was the end of Julien Gauvin at the guitar. Julien is now the singer of the band.
During the year 2003, the band went through hard times. Patrick Desrochers left for family reasons and Jean-Frederique Bordelau was thanked for his services because of conflict of interest. The guys who replaced them are Pierre-Luc Palardy (drums, 2003) and Gabriel Laviolette (bass, 2003), but they only stayed in the group for a short period of time. Gauvin and Girard were left alone again but they didn't give up. At the end of 2003, they found Patrick Cloutier (drums, 2003-current), a talented drummer. They also found Jean-François Marchand (bass, 2003-current). The two co-founders were sure that they found the perfect combination for success. With their recent album a brand new taste, they are ready to take on other projects.
